Throughout my life, I’ve been undeservingly lucky to be surrounded by supportive family, encouraging friends, and vindictive enemies, all of whom serve to push me to do more because I was never good enough for them. I’ve been the recipient of the goodwill of others – times when I’ve been down on my luck, tired, lonely, but mostly, times when I was poor.
Other people are not so lucky.
An old colleague once told me, “If money is the problem, then there’s no problem.” Money should not be the obstacle for decent human beings to live a dignified life – but sometimes we all need a little help here and there.
At this turning point of my life, when I’m closer to the peace of sunset than the excitement of sunrise, I’d like to give a little back. And I hope you’ll help me in my quest to raise $50,000, on my 50th birthday, as I walk 50km.
But I know most of you will donate cos you like to see me in pain because I made you hike some dumbass mountain or cycle through some dumbass jungle or climb some dumbass cliff. Also can lah.
